INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM DAY 2016

Each year’s International Museum Day theme is proposed by ICOM’s network and aims to promote museum issues within society. The theme of the 2016 event is Museums and Cultural Landscapes. A combination of both nature and history, a cultural landscape is a changing and constantly evolving territory, the product of a specific geological identity and transformations made by time and people. Both individuals and communities are responsible for protecting and enhancing these landscapes.

This year, the Goulandris Natural History Museum is addressing an issue of worldwide concern, one the 21st century's most urgent environmental problems: marine plastic pollution. The program aims to raise student and public awareness, through education and the flow of information regarding this crucial issue. Welcome to Goulandris Natural History Museum

The Goulandris Natural History Museum (GNHM) is a private, non profit institution. It consists of a 5-member Board of Directors, permanent scientific, managerial and technical staff and is supported by special scientific advisors in the fields of science and education. The Goulandris Natural History Museum was the first museum of its kind to be established in (1964), and the first to initiate environmental education in the country.
