The Goulandris Museum of Natural History and AXA, in collaboration with the National Technical University of Athens, have created a unique digital report on the earthquake for the first time in Greece. Its purpose is for visitors to “explore” the earthquake, to learn how they can be protected and familiarized with this natural phenomenon, which is particularly important for our country, as it is characterized by intense seismic activity.
Virtual reality, new technologies, experiential exhibits and interactive applications will thus have the opportunity to experience those who visit the original digital Earthquake Museum exhibition that opened on Tuesday May 22, 2018 at the GAIA Center and opened to the general public on Wednesday 23 May 2018 at the Goulandris Museum of Natural History.
The Digital Earthquake Museum exhibition is an original, educational initiative that allows visitors to “tour” and get to know this natural phenomenon through interactive applications and innovative high-tech methods. Unique earthquake models, which provide information on earthquakes, educational videos, showing significant earthquakes in Greece from 1900 to the present, live broadcasting of seismic vibrations in real time, are some of the exhibits.
The interactive experience of the exhibition is complemented by the “seismic bank” and “virtual reality chair”, as well as the “Earthquake in the City” and “Seismic” applications, where the public will be informed on how to protect themselves when an earthquake occurs. The “Earthquake in the Museum” program also includes educational programs for elementary, high school and high school students starting in the fall, as well as two workshops for teachers and the general public.
The “Earthquake in the Museum” Exhibition will be hosted at the Goulandris Museum of Natural History from May 2018 to June 2021. For May and June, guided tours of the Museum will be held.
