NATURAL HISTORY EXHIBITION PROGRAMS

The Museum’s educational activities contribute to the provision of reliable knowledge and the formation of environmental conscience. They target pupils, students, teachers, as well as the general public.

“Wild animals and me”

An interactive program, specially designed for the pupils of Kindergarten, First and Second Grade of Primary School. It involves:
1. Introduction to the museum
2. Interactive guided tour, involving specific stops, conversation, questions and explanations about animals of different groups.
3. Re-enactment of some animal characteristics, next to these chosen animals
Each pupil takes a big coloring page (in A3 paper) of 2 animals of the museum, to color at school or at home.

“9 insects and 1 spider”

An interactive program for pupils of the first and second grade of primary school, aiming for them to discover the secrets of 9 insects and the spider.

The pupils learn secrets of the spider, the bee, the ant, the butterfly, the dragonfly, the mosquito, the mantis, the fly, the ladybug and the cockroach, using colorful slides, games and interactive dialogue.

Next, in the specially designed “Explorers” room, pupils dress up as insects and play a fun game of questions.

Each pupil takes a big coloring page (in A3 paper) of 54 insects and an ant maze in A4 paper and the teacher takes a vocabulary of the program and a colored copy of the A3 drawing.

“Life beneath the waves”

An interactive program, specially designed for the pupils of Kindergarten and First Grade of Primary School, aiming for them to discover the secrets of sea animals.

In this program, pupils are introduced to the museum and to concepts like ecosystem and biodiversity, through a mini game. Next, they are introduced to 10 animals (Kindergarten)/ 14 animals (Primary school) and their characteristics through a group game and a big poster of the bottom of the sea. The program continues with the observation of the actual organisms in the museum exhibition and the filling out of an activity sheet, specially designed for each age group.

The program concludes with a short tour of the rest of the Museum exhibition (15’)

Each pupil takes an educational folder, with stickers and information about the animals that were introduced in the program.

“In the footsteps of the dinosaurs”

An interactive program, specially designed for the pupils of the second and the third grade of Primary School, aiming for them to discover the secrets of the dinosaurs.

Pupils watch a movie called “Dinosaurs: a story of survival” in a specially designed dome that lasts 30 minutes and explains the truth about the evolution of dinosaurs and their extinction. Afterwards, in the “Explorers” room, pupils learn the characteristics of 8 dinosaurs through interactive games. The program continues in the museum exhibition, where pupils observe the skeleton of the Triceratops and compare their size to it and the fossil of the Ichthyosaurus, a prehistoric reptile.

The program concludes with a short tour of the rest of the Museum exhibition (15’)

Each pupil takes a big coloring page (in A3 paper) of 3 dinosaurs and the teacher takes the vocabulary of the program.
