color: #0000ff;\"><b><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">81.<\/span> M\u0391UVE STINGER or PURPLE JELLYFISH <em>(Pelagia noctiluca)<\/em><\/b><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-34093 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gnhm.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/thumbnail_SKM_C250i25070911481-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"336\" height=\"478\" \/>\u00b7<\/p>\n<p>Its scientific name comes<strong><span style=\"color: #5c5454;\"> from the Greek word pelagos (open sea) <\/span><\/strong>and the combination <strong><span style=\"color: #5c5454;\">of the Latin words nox (night) and lux(light),<\/span><\/strong> which can be described as a marine organism with the ability to glow in the dark<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 <strong><span style=\"color: #5c5454;\">It mainly feeds on<\/span><\/strong> plangtonic crustaceans, salps, fish eggs and larvae, as well as phytoplankton<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 While we see it &#8220;swimming&#8221; It has green feathers on its head and a white line on its neck.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><strong><span style=\"color: #544e4e;\">It also has<\/span><\/strong> a characteristic hoarse voice.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; they are the only known mammals with this feature. <strong><span style=\"color: #595555;\">They are structurally and compositionally very different from the scales of reptiles.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The pangolin&#8217;s scaled body <strong><span style=\"color: #595555;\">(30 to 100 cm)<\/span><\/strong> is comparable in appearance to a pinecone.<strong><span style=\"color: #595555;\"> It can curl up into a ball when threatened,<\/span> <\/strong>with its overlapping scales acting as armor.
