{"id":51161,"date":"2024-04-07T15:23:20","date_gmt":"2024-04-07T12:23:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gnhm.gr\/the-botanical-department-of-the-goulandris-natural-history-museum-participated-in-the-compilation-of-the-red-lists-of-threatened-species-of-plants-animals-and-fungi-of-greece\/"},"modified":"2024-04-07T15:23:20","modified_gmt":"2024-04-07T12:23:20","slug":"the-botanical-department-of-the-goulandris-natural-history-museum-participated-in-the-compilation-of-the-red-lists-of-threatened-species-of-plants-animals-and-fungi-of-greece","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gnhm.gr\/en\/announcements\/the-botanical-department-of-the-goulandris-natural-history-museum-participated-in-the-compilation-of-the-red-lists-of-threatened-species-of-plants-animals-and-fungi-of-greece\/","title":{"rendered":"THE BOTANICAL DEPARTMENT OF THE GOULANDRIS NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM PARTICIPATED IN THE COMPILATION OF THE RED LISTS OF THREATENED SPECIES OF PLANTS, ANIMALS, AND FUNGI OF GREECE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Dr Dionysios Mermigkas, <\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Head of the Botanical Department of the Goulanfris Natural History Museum Museum, <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><span style=\"color: #808000;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">participated in the<\/span><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><span style=\"color: #808000;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"> Project &#8220;Compilation of Red Lists of Threatened Species of Plants, Animals, and Fungi of Greece&#8221;<\/span> <span style=\"color: #4f4b4b;\">by assessing 96 species of plants, 17 of which are endemic to Greece.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #4f4b4b;\">The project &#8220;Compilation of Red Lists of Threatened Species of Plants, Animals, and Fungi of Greece&#8221;, <\/span>a collaboration of the Natural Environment and Climate Change Agency\u201d (N.E.C.C.A), the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the Hellenic Botanical Society, and the Hellenic Zoological Society, <strong><span style=\"color: #524d4d;\">was completed by the end of 2023.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Within the framework of the project, <strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">over 10,000 species occurring in Greece were assessed and classified into risk categories according to the criteria and specifications of the IUCN.<\/span> <\/strong>The results are going to be implemented in the creation of a database and the compilation of national red lists, which will be available online.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #524d4d;\">Red Books or Red Lists comply with international assessment rules to determine whether and to what extent a species is endangered at a national, regional, or global scale.<\/span><\/strong> They are valuable tools for planning targeted actions and setting national priorities for the conservation of biodiversity.<\/p>\n<p>Videos featuring selected threatened species <strong><span style=\"color: #524d4d;\">are displayed on screens at the Athens Metro stations.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Photo:<\/span> <\/strong>Biebersteinia orphanidis.
