{"id":51224,"date":"2024-07-28T12:31:42","date_gmt":"2024-07-28T09:31:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gnhm.gr\/great-success-of-the-conference-titled-net-zero-and-climate-resilient-shipping-can-greece-lead-the-race\/"},"modified":"2025-08-11T13:23:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-11T10:23:10","slug":"great-success-of-the-conference-titled-net-zero-and-climate-resilient-shipping-can-greece-lead-the-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gnhm.gr\/en\/announcements\/great-success-of-the-conference-titled-net-zero-and-climate-resilient-shipping-can-greece-lead-the-race\/","title":{"rendered":"GREAT SUCCESS OF THE CONFERENCE TITLED \u201cNET-ZERO AND CLIMATE-RESILIENT SHIPPING: CAN GREECE LEAD THE RACE?\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The Conference titled <strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">\u201cNet-Zero and Climate-Resilient Shipping: Can Greece Lead the Race?\u201d<\/span><\/strong> organized by <strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">the Goulandris Museum of Natural History, the UNSDSN Global Climate Hub,<\/span> <span style=\"color: #008080;\">and the AE4RIA initiative,<\/span><span style=\"color: #993300;\"> was held on Friday, May 31, 2024,<\/span><\/strong> at the Goulandris Museum of Natural History, under the auspices of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\"><strong><span style=\"color: #666699;\">The aim of the conference<\/span><\/strong> was to gather maritime professionals so that all together can contribute to the implementation of innovative solutions and research that could lead to the introduction of more efficient technologies with a low ecological footprint and aid in accelerating the transformation of the Greek shipping sector.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, <strong><span style=\"color: #5e5a5a;\">Mr. Christos Stylianides, <\/span><\/strong>who took part in the event, emphasized the need for safe, affordable low-carbon fuels and highlighted Greece&#8217;s commitments to enhancing port infrastructure. Moreover, he mentioned recent commitments of the ministry, such as equipping at least 12 Greek ports with coastal power services by 2030, conducting a study for the gradual renewal of the entire passenger fleet in Greece by 2025, and renewing the fleet with low-emission ships on public interest coastal routes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The President of the Goulandris Museum of Natural History, <strong><span style=\"color: #5e5a5a;\">Ms. Fali Voyatzaki,<\/span> <\/strong>noted in her speech the l respect of the Greeks for nature since ancient times, the role of the museum in environmental education, and its current focus on climate change.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">Prof.<strong><span style=\"color: #5e5a5a;\"> Dr. Phoebe Koundouri,<\/span><\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aueb.gr\/en\/faculty_page\/koundouri-phoebe\">Professor<\/a>\u00a0 at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aueb.gr\/en\">Athens University of Economics and Business,\u00a0<\/a>Professor at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/orbit.dtu.dk\/en\/organisations\/department-of-technology-management-and-economics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Technology, Management and Economics, Technical University of Denmark \u2013 DTU<\/a>, chair of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) Global Climate Hub and Scientific Director of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ae4ria.org\/\">Alliance of Excellence for Research and Innovation on Aeiphoria<\/a>\u00a0(AE4RIA), highlighted Greece&#8217;s ability to lead in promoting sustainable shipping through collaborations.
