THE 3rd HERPETOLOGICAL SYMPOSIUM\u00a0& LIVE REPTILE EXHIBIT AT THE GOULANDRIS MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY

The Societas Hellenica Herpetologica (ELERPE) in collaboration<\/span> with the Goulandris Museum of Natural History<\/span><\/strong> is hosting the 3rd Herpetological Symposium which will feature a Live Reptile and Amphibian Exhibition.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Following the success of the previous events in 2016 and 2018,<\/span> <\/strong>the 3rd Herpetological Symposium and Live Reptile Exhibit is returning to the Museum!<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s Herpetological Symposium coincides with the 25th anniversary of ELERPE,<\/span><\/strong> adding a festive spirit to the event. The Symposium will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024,<\/span><\/strong> at the “A. Goulandris Amphitheater,” with presentations showcasing the work of Societas Hellenica Herpetologica.<\/p>\n

The Live Reptile Exhibit, set to captivate visitors of all ages once again, will be held from Saturday, November 9 to Sunday, November 17, 2024,<\/span> in the Atrium of the GAIA Center at the Goulandris Museum of Natural History.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

It will feature representative reptile and amphibian species from Greece and other countries.<\/span><\/strong> The Greek species on display were collected through research projects with special permits from university institutions, while the non-native species were obtained through rescue operations.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The exhibit serves an educational purpose, aiming to assist Symposium attendees and Museum visitors to:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

– Discover<\/span><\/strong> the reptiles and amphibians native to Greece<\/p>\n

– Gain insight<\/span><\/strong> into their significance and role in nature and life<\/p>\n

– Dispel<\/span> <\/strong>misconceptions about reptiles and to de-stigmatize them<\/p>\n

– Learn<\/span><\/strong> how snake bites should be treated<\/p>\n

– Get informed<\/span><\/strong> about the illegal trade of reptiles and amphibians and the legal framework governing it<\/p>\n

As part of these events, herpetologist Dr. Emmanuela Karameta<\/span> <\/strong>will deliver a talk on Greek amphibians and reptiles on Saturday, November 16, 2024.<\/span><\/strong> This family-friendly presentation will last approximately one hour and take place in the \u201cKyklos Hall\u201d<\/span> on the first floor of the GAIA Center,<\/span> with sessions scheduled for 11:00 and 13:00.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The GAIA Center’s Educational Department<\/span> <\/strong>is inviting 4th to 6th grade schools classes to take part in an exciting educational program titled \u201cLiving Links: People, Reptiles, and Amphibians in a Changing World,\u201d<\/span><\/strong> set to take place from Monday, November 11 to Friday, November 15, 2024.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

CREATIVE WORKSHOP FOR CHILDREN AGES 4-6<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Museum’s Educational Department<\/span> <\/strong>is hosting Creative Workshops titled \u201cIn the Footsteps of Dinosaurs\u201d<\/span> on Sunday, November 10, 2024.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
