The National Museum of Natural History Goulandris is delighted to announce its collaboration with internationally acclaimed photographer, filmmaker, author, and explorer Mattias Klum, who has been appointed as the Museum’s Ambassador.

Mattias Klum is internationally recognized as one of the world’s leading nature photographers and visual storytellers. For more than three decades, he has travelled to some of the most remote regions of the planet, documenting the extraordinary beauty, complexity, and fragility of life on Earth. Through his lens, he transforms scientific knowledge into powerful images and compelling stories that inspire, educate, and motivate millions of people around the world to care for nature.

His work has appeared in some of the world’s most prestigious publications, including National Geographic, The New York Times, BBC Wildlife, GEO, Audubon, Vogue, Stern, and Der Spiegel. He has also photographed thirteen covers for National Geographic, making him one of the magazine’s most distinguished contributors.

In addition to his photographic work, Mattias Klum has produced numerous award-winning documentaries and authored several books in collaboration with renowned scientists, including Johan Rockström and Dr Jane Goodall. His exceptional contribution to photography and environmental communication has earned him numerous international distinctions, including the Royal Medal of Sweden for his achievements in photography and his recognition as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.

His long-standing collaborations with leading international organizations such as WWF, IUCN, and the Charles Darwin Foundation, together with his service on Sweden’s national committee for the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, reflect his deep commitment to biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.

As Ambassador of the National Museum of Natural History Goulandris, Mattias Klum will actively contribute to:

  • strengthening the Museum’s international profile and global visibility;
  • developing new international scientific, cultural, and educational partnerships;
  • promoting environmental awareness and the conservation of nature; and
  • inspiring younger generations to discover, appreciate, and protect the natural world.

This collaboration marks another important milestone in the Museum’s international outreach and reinforces its growing global presence. Through his credibility, authenticity, and worldwide influence, Mattias Klum will make a significant contribution to advancing the mission of the National Museum of Natural History Goulandris: to bring science closer to society and to foster a deeper understanding of, and connection with, the natural world.

“Knowledge creates understanding. Understanding creates care. And care is the first step towards protecting our planet.”
